My first vaccination rendez-vous

Last Tuesday, I had my first appointment at the Pasteur Institute (Paris) in order to discuss about my travel with a medecine and then to specify the needed jabs, according to my itinerary. The vaccination process is a VIP (Very Important Part) of your trip planning.
You have to be careful in order to avoid getting sick abroad. Here are some tips if you’re planning a trip abroad, and especially a world tour…
- First of all, do not hesitate to organize yourself in advance ! Some of the vaccines must be done several times to be efficient.
- Then, take your time to explain your trip in details to the medecine. The ideal would be to go in a fitted structure, such as the Pasteur Institute and its "advices to travelers" meeting program.
- Find some extra informations as a refresher course about precautions that must be taken concerning food and your daily life. To help you, the website of the Aventure du Bout du Monde association is really full of rich informations and allows to download fact sheets country by country.
- For your apointment, do not forget your Health record booklet.
By the end your doctor’s appointment, an International Vaccination Booklet will be delivered to you, as well as a planning for your vaccinations. You can download mine here. Moreover, some prescriptions will be given to you to get all the trip’s needed drugs.
Finally, vous can also start directly your treatment if you want it (and mostly if you have time !). Personally, I asked for my first Tick-borne encephalitis jab (45 € per injection). What a budget : I recently estimated total cost for vaccinations at something around 450 € ! For your information, a doctor’s appointment through the "advices to travelers" costs 29 €.
