Why a world tour?

I love travelling and nature. During the previous years I have been visiting different European countries such as Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, England, Scotland, Luxembourg as well as some parts of the world (USA, Dominican Republic, Morocco, Turkey, China). I think that now is the time to continue my exploring. I have the experience, the energy and courage to start this trip that will probably change my life forever..

Why alone?

Leaving alone is a quite constrained choice; I wasn’t lucky enough to find a travelmate, ready to take a full year-off. But, looking at the bright side this will probably help me to meet more interesting people. Moreover, I have already planned to visit some friends that live around the world so it will be really nice. Finally, a friend of mine decided to join me in India during August 2009.

How to "survive" ?

One of the goals of this trip is to try and get short term jobs all along the trip, in order to maximize discussions with people I will meet all along the road and also to discover from the inside economies of these countries. But, just in case, I have saved enough money before leaving in case I am not lucky at the job department ! Finally, if you wish to offer me a particular job, I’m available ! More information by sending me an email

How much money does it take for realizing this project ?

One full year around the world, it is obvioulsy a strong investment in time, as well as money.

It is extremely hard to estimate how much money to take while leaving France. Since I still haven’t raised enough money for the whole trip I’ll simply leave with the amount I was able to gather and I’ll look after my expenses at least for the first part of the trip.

More precisely, I’ve estimated the global cost of this trip at a bit more than 12 000 € (Not including airplane tickets and local transports).

What does your family and friends think of your project?

Because they will obvioulsy answer better than me, let’s hear what they have to say about the trip !

"I’m proud of Romain’s world tour project, even if such a trip is always a source of anxiousness for a father. A lot of people dream with such an adventure and most of them are not able to accomplish it ever. . It’s a good way to learn about life itself through the experiences that such trip can teach you. This project will allow him to learn more, to anticipate things, to make wise choices…and why not? It will lead him to a professional project.. To understand human beings on a world scale must be a wonderful thing. This is a real ambitious project that asks rigour. I’m therefore wishing you a very nice trip, but be careful:, the most important thing is to enjoy the journey and reach the goal, like in a race."

"When you told us about your world tour project, I must admit that I became very anxious and expected you to change your mind. But when I saw during these months all your preparation, your highly motivated spirit and motivation I changed my mind. The fact that you will be meeting with some friends at different locations also played an important role. This does not come as a surprise to me: knowing your sense of friendship, as well as your good siprit, Iam sure that this travel will bring you more and new friends as well as wonderful experiences. Please be careful and I am counting on your updates ! I hope this trip will change your life for good personally and professionally."

"Romain showed a high motivation about his world tour project and had really impressed us through his real tenacity these days! I really think that this is a real opportunity for him. With a real adventurer spirit, he always need to tale on challenges. That is why it came as no surprise to me to know he was leaving us for one year. He’s really working hard on this project and even I am thinking to join him for some weeks sometime! He really transmitted his passion for travelling, and I know that he will live his adventure at one hundred percent. His attraction for foreign countries, his awareness, and finally his ability to efficiently materialize all these qualities through his beautiful blog are really motivating us to wish him "Have a good trip, and leave as soon as possible to let us start following your stories…"For sure, he will make us dream during his trip!"

"I’m finding that Romain’s project is an extraordinary thing and that we should all follow his example! He has a lot of ambition, fearlessness and out of the ordinary tenacity. If ever I had all of these qualities, I would have really loved to join him. But unfortunately, I do not have them… Good luck to him!"

"Romain’s project sound as an awesome thing to me: what a wonderful idea! It will then allow him to discover the world as well as new cultures, to meet a lot of people from different origins, and then acquire a better international experience. It won’t be always easy during the way, he will have to deal with many obstacles, but to finally live an unforgettable and rewarding year. His blog will also allow him to share with us all the souvenirs. If only I could have hidden myself in his suitcase…By the way, we’ll really miss you during this coming year but you can’t miss this opportunity.. Many people are thinking of doing such a trip, but few dar ! Congratulations ! "

Since how long are you preparing this trip ?

At the beginning, taking a full year off to travel was a dream for a while. At the end of December 2007, the penny dropped. I then realised i only had 6 months left before the end of my studies. And that i would certainly be easier for me to take this year off now rather than waiting to start a job somewhere…

What will be your journey precisely ?

About me

I'm a 23 years old young graduate, living in Lyon, France and who is preparing for a 12 months trip around the world. The purpose of this travel is to fully comprehend the international environment by looking through different people’s eyes. Together we will be learning about each countries values and beliefs, fears and dreams, worries and concerns through pictures, people’s stories and my experiences. Hopefully, this will bring a new point of view, a new perspective over the world’s view.
