I choose to make you discover the traveler ethical chart, that i found on the blog Rêves de Nomades (I’ll soon write an article about this fantastic website).

Respect is critical for a better meeting of cultures

… Every culture, religion and way of life has rules and traditions that one must respect and understand…

… Every country has his own rhythm of life…

… Slinky or undressed clothes… could shock in some places…

… A good picture with someone is took with his wish…

… Sexual tourism is an attack on human dignity and is punished by the law…

Money, goods, food, don’t have the same value everywhere

… To be welcome in a village or in familly sometimes means a huge sacrifice for local population…

… Donations and gifts have a real value…

… Gifts, donations and tips that are too important regarding the global standard of living of the visited country destibilize local economic balances…

… Use local hotels, means of transportation, services (guides, cookers, carriers, cleaning…) is often the best way to make them benefit from the tourism money…

… Wrangling is a cultural part of commercial tradition of some countries. To refuse it is often badly interpreted and can result into a increase of the cost of living…On the other hand, one does not have to forget that ridiculous sums for the visitors can represent a high amount for those who receive them…

Only will our footprints stay

… Natural space and cultural places are often the principal touristic wealths of a country

… Travelers have a responsability to the welcoming country environment…

… Travelers must not leave refuses behind them…

… One must have tout inform itself about local behaviors about management of refuses…

… Certain ecosystems are fragile and impose cares : do not drive off-road, limited stalling…

… Animals watching must not disturb their daily life. It’s it better to put distance between you and them, and to limit noises…

… To feed animals change their usual foods and then can be dangerous…

… Some “souvenirs” that are part of the cultural heritage of the welcoming country must not leave it. Graffitis or other similar things are often indelible mutilations…

… Agreements on animals protection have been voted to forbid skins trades as well as ivory, scales, coral, shells trades and alive exotic animals importation…

… Drinking water is sometimes a rare thing that one must use with care…

It goes without saying that i’m pledging to respect this chart.

This chart has been created by Lonely Planet and you can find the complete french version here (it seems that an english version does not exist).

About me

I'm a 23 years old young graduate, living in Lyon, France and who is preparing for a 12 months trip around the world. The purpose of this travel is to fully comprehend the international environment by looking through different people’s eyes. Together we will be learning about each countries values and beliefs, fears and dreams, worries and concerns through pictures, people’s stories and my experiences. Hopefully, this will bring a new point of view, a new perspective over the world’s view.
